Burns & McDonnell has been in the UK since 2017 and since 2021 has been working primarily for National Grid on a substation project.
Burns & McDonnell’s UK operations director, Nick Busby, now becomes director of construction operations and head of the Burns & McDonnell UK construction group. He joined Burns & McDonnell from Morgan Sindall in 2020.
The standalone division offers project management, safety, quality, estimating, procurement, planning, cost control and construction management support for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects.
“Clients can expect business as usual, but with a more formalised structure that enables us to align with the global business,” he said. “Having a fully integrated engineering and construction team working together with the rest of the UK business and sharing the same mission at every stage underpins the successful execution of our EPC projects and the Burns & McDonnell operating model.”
UK managing director Jonathan Chapman said: “Our UK business has grown rapidly since launching in 2017, and we need to adapt to accommodate this growth, whilst providing full-service solutions that address our clients’ engineering and construction challenges. The construction group’s increased presence marks a milestone in our growth.”
Burns & McDonnell opened a UK office in Birmingham in 2017 and then in London in 2021. In November 2021 National Grid awarded it a £14m EPC contract for a 400-kV gas-insulated substation in Yaxley, Suffolk.
