Social housing developer Vistry Partnerships and housing association Peabody have been working together on the Barkingside scheme, alongside Transport for London’s property arm, TTL Properties.

Predominately covering the area previously used as a builder’s yard next to Barkingside tube station, the development will have 98 new homes, all of which will be affordable, as well as an enhanced public area. Delivered across three buildings, the new homes will be a mixture of one-, two-, and three-bedroom properties and provide a mixture of both shared ownership and social rent.

The developers says that architect Sheppard Robson has designed the scheme to complement the Grade II listed station beside it.

As part of the continuing clampdown on car ownership in the capital, the new homes have been designed to be car-free, with no parking provided, except for a handful of blue badge parking spaces. Only cycle storage will be available within each of the buildings.

The wider scheme will use some of the existing station car park and the remainder will be reconfigured.

This scheme also makes sure that the local community benefits by enhancing the public realm, including improved cycle parking and new pedestrian crossings to support the local area.”
